More and more people are accessing the web with their smart phones. It was reported for years that smartphone web access would surpass computer web use, and this cnet.com report says that it has already happened in some parts of the world.
As I have looked at our own stats, the number of those accessing our site via mobile phones has increased from 9% to 45% in the past year.
What does this mean for your youth ministry and the information on your website? It needs to be mobile friendly.
How can we do this?
1. Make sure your site shows up well on all mobile phones. We use wordpress for our website. When I chose a theme, plug ins, extensions, etc… I tested them on various phones, various platforms to get them as uniform as possible.
2. Create a mobile friendly entry page. If you go to williamsstudentministry.org you will get our youth website. If you go to wmumcimpact.org you will get a mobile friendly entry page. It contains the major links to the most requested information such as forms, events, calendar etc…
3. Encourage people to access by mobile. When we post our website we use the wmumcimpact.org mobile site. In our newsletters we use QR codes that go to our mobile site. Our text message updates include short links to our mobile site. We try to push the mobile entry site as much as possible. We want our youth and parents to know that they can find out what they need, wherever they are.
How mobile friendly is your website? What would you add?
