A few years ago I made a post called “How to Build Your Own 4 Square in the Air” court. At that time the only connectors I could find were 2 and 3 way PVC connectors. So it required many more joints and many more pvc pipes than necessary.
However, in the past year Amazon has made available 3, 4 and 5 way PVC connectors. This makes the whole 4 square air set up much easier.
Items Needed –
All PVC 1 1/2 Inches
21 PVC Pipes cut to 84 inches
4- 3 Way PVC Connectors (Amazon)
4 – 4 Way PVC Connectors (Amazon)
1 – 5 Way PVC Connector (Amazon)
Roll of large velcro (optional)
Rubber mallet – (optional)
Step 1 – Lay out all of your materials and make sure you have everything needed before you begin assembly. Put the 5 way connector in the center, The 3 way connectors on the corners and the 4 way connectors in the middle of the sides.
Step 2 – Make your first square. Make a square by connecting the 5 way in the middle to the 4 way connectors in the middle of the outside wall, then to the 3 way connector in the corner.
Step 3 – Attach your bottom poles to make it stand up
Step 4 – Keep assembling square by square until the whole thing is up and ready to go
Step 5 – Once you know everything is connected then use the rubber mallet to gently hit the joints and securely connect everything
Step 6 – (Optional) Take a piece of velcro and cut the hook side in half. Place it over a pole and joint. Then, once assembled you can take the fuzzy side and place it over the joint and pole to hold it securely together.
Did you use anything on the bottom of the pvc poles to protect the hardwood floor?
We actually have a polished concrete floor so we did not. I imagine even some duct tape would work if needed though.
