I am always looking for ways for our youth to engage with the Word of God and with each other. For the past two weeks we have been doing just that with our verse paintings.
First we split our group into Jr High and Sr High. The first week our Jr High did the “Instagram Photo Scavenger Hunt” while the Sr High stayed back in the youth center. Once the Jr High had left we divided up into groups of 4 or 5.
For the Sr High I found paint canvas on sale 3 for the price of one at Michaels. Each group got one canvas. I also purchased some basic colors of acrylic paint, and an assortment of foam brushes.
The instructions were simple. Choose a verse from the Bible or from a song. Paint the verse and any accompanying decorations on your canvas.
For the Jr High we took ceiling tiles from one of our drop ceilings and used those as our canvases.
We use the ceiling tiles in various rooms of our youth center. The canvasses we hung on the walls to help decorate the space.
At the end, when parents usually wait in cars for their students to come out, there were many students bringing their parents in to our youth center space to see the paintings.
