Scatterpong is a simple game that can be played almost anywhere. You need a ping pong net, one paddle per person, ping pong ball and a table.
Traditionally played on a regular table, as you can see in the clip below we used a round table and a retractable ping pong net. Here’s how it works.
1. Each person gets a paddle, and numbers off 1 through however many.
2. The first person serves to the second person. A serve consists of the ball hitting the servers side, and the other side of the net.
3. The number 2 person waits for the ball to bounce on their side, and then roll or bounce off the table onto the floor.
4. Once the ball hits the floor the player must then hit the ball back onto the table.
5. The number 3 person follows the same procedure, let the ball bounce once on the floor and then hit the ball back on the table.
6. Play continues until a player fails to hit the ball back onto the table, after hit hits the floor of course.
7. When that happens, that person gets a strike.. then they proceed to start the process over again, serving to the next player.
8. Once a player has three strikes they are eliminated. The game ends when only one player is left.
**Note- The serve is the only time a ball must hit both sides of the net on the table. In all subsequent plays the ball can hit anywhere on the table and does not have to cross the net. This can make the game interesting.
**Note – If the ball gets stuck against the net, or stops on the table, the player who’s turn it is may wave at the ball with their paddle or blow on the ball to get it moving off of the table.
Origin – This version of scatter pong was created around 1997 at the Trinity Valley Community College Baptist Student Ministy in Athens, Tx. The game is played in other locations, with slight variations of the rules.
