For 4 years now I have been leading our Youth Worship team at the church, and for 4 years we have been nameless. This has not really been an issue for a while, except we are now getting requests to come play for different groups, camps, retreats, etc.. and we really are needing a name.
I suggested Williams Youth Band, but that didn’t take flight.
So I ask you. Does your youth band have a name? How did you come up with it? What are some names you would suggest?
Well, Russell I have avoided the name issue with our band because I’ve been fighting ego issues a bit. Not having a name seems to curtail the rockstar mentality if you’re just the “youth group worship band”. However, I can see how in the future, having a band name would help and that we will probably need one soon. A few years ago we saw a cardboard cutout of a jukebox in a restaurant and I pointed out that “Cardboard Jukebox” would be a good name because it lends itself to the idea that without God to be our voice we are nothing. Another name I mentioned once in a Bible study was “divine misfits” and a parent told me that should be our name. I like them both.
I know of an adult rock/blues Christian band affiliated with a church, they were called the Circuit Riders. So how about some similar Methodist connection, using Wesley, Aldersgate, or Asbury in the name. Also, biblical references such as Living Water, Bread of Life, The Light, The Way….. or a combination such as Wesley’s Way…..
