We’re collecting the creative ways that you are using social media to stay connected to your students during this time of Covid-19.
Here is a simple idea that will help students to be engaged when you cannot meet face to face. It’s the “One Minute Film Festival” and it comes to us from Jordan Monroe.
The basic idea is that students use whatever means they have to create a short 1 minute movie and submit it for the group to watch.
Theme
First of all students are given a theme/style. Make sure to include this theme when you announce the festival and put it on all of your social media announcements.
Here are some examples-
80’s Movie
Old Testament Bible Story
In the Style of “Disney Musical”
Good Idea, Bad Idea
Crocodile Hunter
Silent Movie
Household Item Musical
Pet Documentary
Create
Students then create their movie. They can use any filming app or device they like. Examples would be Tik Tok, iMovie, Instagram, iPhone etc… They just need to keep it to one minute, and incorporate the theme.
Submit
Have students submit their videos in the best way that works for you. You can have them text them to you, set up a google drive, have them send to your instagram dm or email.
Make sure and give them a specific deadline to submit the movie by.
Post
Now it’s time for the show. Tell the students a time you are going to post their videos. Maybe you you do it throughout the day. Maybe you set up a zoom meeting and host a watch party for everyone. Have fun with it.
Included
We are including 2 slides in instagram square format for you to use. There is room for you to put a youth logo or name of your group on the title slide. The second slide is for you to write your rules.
Jordan is the Youth Director at San Marcos UMC in San Marcos Texas. You can connect with him on twitter and instagram @monroseph and follow his youth group @unitefumcsm on instagram.
