Mission trips are filled with moments. These are moments where you are working, playing, laughing, learning and living together. We try to capture these moments. Usually photos, or videos are taken by one person and put into a slide show for the end of the week.
On my most recent trip to College UM ARMY, that job fell to me. So every day I went out and took photos, captured videos and put together a slide show. I was always bothered by the fact that I could only capture the moments I was there for. We have 12 teams at different sites all day, and I cannot be everywhere at once.
The previous year we solved this partially by using instagram for photos. This year I was explaining how that would work, and someone asked, “What about Vine?”
Several months ago Twitter released a new video sharing app called “Vine”. The app allows you to capture six seconds of video and upload it to your followers, post on twitter, or Facebook. So we chose a hashtag #cuma2013 for both Instagram and Vine and waited to see what happened.
Over the course of the week college students captured moments where they were working, playing, singing, worshipping, eating and being together.
Here is an example:
Use this Twitter search for #cuma2013 Vine to see all the videos from the week.
Unfortunately I could not find a way to download the videos to put them into a slide show. I was able to hook my ipad up to the projector and we just scrolled down through them.
Looking for other ways to use Vine for ministry, check out this post I wrote about 5 ways the Vine App could be used for ministry.
FYI – Because of some postings, and an unfortunate turn of events Vine has been hit with a 17+ rating. This has probably hindered Vine being accepted more widely in ministries. What do you think? Will you, or do you use Vine currently for ministry?
