Our youth group has recently been talking about how we can be more welcoming and inviting. I asked them to list three or four things they thought they could change about what we do now in order to make our group a warmer, more welcoming place to be. The one answer on everyones list was to change the youth room.
The comments were that It’s great but it is a little impersonal and not welcoming.
So I am looking for ideas. I know we all have different spaces. Some of us have large dedicated spaces. Some of us meet wherever we can find space that week. Wherever you meet, how do you make it youth friendly, inviting and warm? Share your ideas in the comments below.
I have created a pinterest board with a few ideas here
Designed our own YM logo, made a BIG cling sticker out of it, put it on the wall, helped kids design and make a bunch of large crosses of different materials that we change each season, coffee and tea hospitality, Sunday School continental breakfast, a good music system with student made play lists, a big screen tv for videos and games, respectful, calming paint colors (no ‘murals’, yulk), new/decent seating instead of ratty old donated couches.
